Bauhaus
Bauhaus was a German school that worked with crafts and fine arts and combined to the two and operated from 1919 to 1933 and was founded by Walter Gropius. It was founded with the idea that when creating they should be a 'total' work of art in all art forms and particularly architecture. With this the Bauhaus style become one of the most influential styles that even is current in modern architecture and through out design. It influenced many modern design and designs earlier in and in principle is straight thick lines and functional since it never completely puts form before function yet expands it and considers both. It often involves simple geometric shapes such as squares, rectangles and circles.
Bauhaus influences many areas even today and this includes; art, architecture, interior design, typography and graphic design. Due to this I would say that Bauhaus is one of the most influential styles that still can be seem around the world to this day.
Noma Bar
Avinoam Noma Bar Avinoam Noma Bar 1973 - present
Noma Bar is a graphic designer who's work is simple vector illustrations that seem simple at first yet when looked into further have clever meaning behind them using subtle techniques such as layering or negative space. The work often only consists of around two to three colours and flat shapes yet it's simplicity is what makes his work so good. This image of boxing gloves is a good example of this concept. It is made up of a plain black background two red boxing gloves and two white arms that are perfect reflections and have no gradients for depth so are completely flat. The clever aspect is the negative space between the gloves fingers and thumbs which show muscular arms raised up, and since there are two gloves it creates a pair of arms which in thus case would mostly likely be a boxers arms. This is a clever use of negative space and one that I would like to use my self.
This piece work with clever layering and positioning of the imagery's aspects to give assets double meanings. This work is on a flat yellow background and includes two faces made in black and white. They both could start with the same simple smiling face but with one the colors inverted to one was white faced and the other was black faced. The white faced one was placed behind the black one and positioned until the white ones smile was forming black horns for the black face that was layer over the top to make it seem evil due to it being black and having devil horns. Then to make the top one seem angelic a simple halo was placed at the top. This is made up of very simple shapes and mostly likely created in a vector from yet is a very smart idea and clever use of layering.
Noma Bar is a very intelligent graphic designer using simple flat shapes to show more than many other could convey in huge detailed paintings. This is an interesting was of showing how simple a design could be and how simplicity can be better than too much detail.

Alphonse Mucha
1860 - 1939
Alphonse Mucha is a art Nouveau (french for new art) artist who is known for his distinctive style and is a skilled illustrator. His best known pieces were advertisements for products during the 1890's which often depicted women withe the products the imagery was showcasing created with the style of art nouveau.
His work is highly detailed and the aspects are realistic to a degree yet slight inhansed to show the art nouveau style more. This would involve the subject matter that was usually women being realistic and anatomically correct yet their hair being longer and having long curves which is a main part of art nouveau. This style works very well when the subject matter is a woman's hair and works well on many other objects such as flowers and anything that can be long and curved since that is the basic principle of art nouceau.
Overall I think this style works very well and Alphonse Mucha uses it very well and very greatly with the subject matter he is conveying. It keeps a sense of realism yet adapting aspects to make them seem more interesting and idealic using the art nouveau style to the ordinary seem like art work
Juan Gris
1887-1927
Juan Gris was Spanish born sculptor and painter who worked with cubism whilst living and working in France. Gris's work is painted in the style of cubism with bright colours and often illustrated objects which can be considered relatively small and could fit on a table or are people and from my research has never illustrated a landscape or any architectural scenes. The objects or aspects in which he conveys are rarely whole or can be seen fully due to them often being cut up or split into key aspects. often the objects he is illustrating are made up of abstract shapes and consist of very little detail but are still clear enough for the audience to be able to tell what he is showcasing in his work
Juan is most famous for his cubism work and is a good way to show what the cubism style refers to.
Cubism is considered one of the most influential art movements of the 20th century, Mostly the imagery in cubism is broken up then re assembled to show key aspects in new ways. The objects are broken into straight lines and the new positioning of the parts to show the objects in new ways.
Cubism is a very interesting style and Juan Gris uses it well by following the key aspects associated with the style of art. Cubism isn't a realistic style of art instead is abstract using cubes and straight lines yet still making it clear as to what the subject matter is. This style would be interesting to try with regular objects and see how different they look in the cubism style.

Claude-Oscar Monet
1840- 1926
Born in Paris and grew up in Le Harve Claude - Oscar Monet and in 1856 was contacted by Eugène Boudin who introduced Monet to painting nature. He lived in Paris and during 1859 and later in 1862 he entered Charles Gleyre’s studio where he met many other artists who influenced Monet on his work and artist later in his life were great influences such as; Edouard Manet who influenced his figure compositions of the 1860’s and Pierre-Auguste Renoir who influenced his brush strokes. Monet is regarded as one of the leading French impressionist landscape painters and has worked along side and been inspired by many artists and inspired many in the impressionistic style.
Impressionist was to begin with an insult in response to a showcase of new paintings in 1874 in Paris. These paintings were rejected by many art establishments and was painted by Monet, Renoir, Pissarro and Degas, who were the founding fathers of the impressionism style. The key characteristics to impressionism that is regarded at this point of time is the technique and the subject matter. Typically the subject matter is a landscape from natural gardens and lakes to modern urban life but painted in bright, vibrant colours. Impressionism paintings were often painted outdoors, rapidly and within the time when the natural light was at the same height.
Claude-Oscar Monet’s paintings are very bright and colourful with quick brush strokes of landscapes and scenery. His paintings involve a lot of water as a subject matter which works very well with the impressionism style due to the colourful nature of the style being able to capture the vivid colours and with the fast brush strokes capturing the waters movement. The bright colours and fast brush strokes work very well with the nature subject matter and capture it well whilst the brush strokes also add a sense of depth and texture to the paintings. Many natural aspects within Monet’s paintings work mainly due to the impressionism style and the work has a huge amount of detail whilst still having an interesting style which is two aspects that many can have on their own but few have both within their work.
Monet’s work is very realistic which is because his work has been painted quickly and capturing the true form of the landscape. There are no further additions to the imagery to add more subject matter, his work is very true and doesn’t adapt the subject matter to suit his needs or to make his work seem more interesting. The work is still very picturesque and the environments seem like places the audience would enjoy visiting and capture an environment at it’s best or at least make it seem picturesque. Monet is in my opinion one of the best impressioism painters and a highly talented painter, his work is what I think about when picturing impressionism paintings and his work is some of the finest paintings since he captures so much detail yet incorporates it into a interesting style which influences artists such as Vincent Van Gogh carries on influences artist to this day whilst also being an original impressionism painter. The main point behind a impressionism artist is that the work they create is their work impression of the imagery and what they see around them. The work often captures the emotion behind the work more than the subject matter itself. Due to this people can have alternative impressions from a artist work and what they were depicting within their work. Monet is a artist who uses this process yet also strides for realism which isn’t what is considered impressionism within the art world yet he is one of the first impressionism artists.

Spike Jonze
Spike often has the theme of comedy in his media, it tends to be jolly and not serious with simple comedic content that anyone can uderstand so will usally suit any audience. This can be simple things like taking a simple act such as playing golf that fit within the confines of realty and exaggerating it to have it being played over a city. The exagerating of actions is a recurring theme. Having everything that is still got a .The videos are often hectic in the middle and edited into quick short scenes to give the idea of speed. In contrast to this the Bjork video is a one shot single video that is continuos. another reacurring style is the single charcacter slow introduction that is setting the scene, then a contrast into a fast paced middle with crowds of people for the main aspect of the video. What he film are often based around a single simple idea such as dancing which is regulary theme of perticularly music because that is a related subject matter. There are no digital special effects in the majority of the videos he creates which gives it a simple style that looks like it is possible for people to copy, since they wouldn't need a media studio with expensive computers. He simply rely upon clever camer angles and shooting techniques that work with the videos content and audio that suits the pacing and genre of the video.
