Josef Muller-Brockmann

Josef Muller-Brockmann (1914-1996) is Swiss graphis designer who was a freelance designer in Zurich during the 1930's. His designs often only have two to three colours in them which keeps them mimilistic and easy to observe and review. The shapes that form his work are mostly straight and often would fit under the cubism genre, however there are huge amounts of curves which when combined with the other shapes creates an abstract design.

The composition is well planned and has a layout that is well thought of through out the design with the purpose in mind. A large amount of his work was used by the design magazine EYE http://www.eyemagazine.com/home.php .

The media used in his earlier career contrasts with his more modern work. Muller-Brockmann's earlier work involves photographs and typography, this contrasts with his more modern work which has no photographs and focuses on simple shapes and creating abstracts shapes and designs for ways of illustrating and conveying information.
